Patong Vs Karon ??

We are going to Phuket in September with our kids (14 and 16 yrs). Really can%26#39;t decide whether to go for Patong or Karon to stay at. We enjoy snorkelling, shopping, lazing by pool and beach, restaurants, etc. Is Patong too busy and crowded?... Is Karong a little bit too sleepy? How far apart are they?

Thanks...

Patong Vs Karon ??

Patong is brash and the biggest beach report, some of the bars there may not be what you want your kids seeing. There%26#39;s lots to do but in September its low season. Karon is a good 30 minute drive over the hills, and has a completely different feel, much smaller, but with a bit more class.

Patong Vs Karon ??

First of all, I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll get much good snorkeling in September, it%26#39;s the wet season and the sea is rougher with poor visibility.

Despite some of the negative comments you%26#39;ll see, Patong is very manageable in regards to the bars, try stay away from Bangla at night but then most of the risque stuff isn%26#39;t too overt anyway. I%26#39;d suggest that at 14 %26amp; 16 your son%26#39;s would sooner have a giggle at the little they might see, many families come here without a problem, my partner%26#39;s 9 then 11 yo had a bit of a learning curve but, with an explaination, took it all in her stride. Patong has more to offer in regards to shopping and restaurants, the beach is nice too. September is a quiet period for Phuket, Patong should be very manageable at this time.

Although I haven%26#39;t stayed in Karon the feel there is much quieter, sleepy might be an acurate description for this time of year, but there seems to be enough shopping and plenty of restaurants, all could be a little cheaper. Karon is also less densly structured. Patong is only just over the hill if you want a fix of a busy environment - I%26#39;d suggest the trip is more like 5-8 minutes rather than 30, it%26#39;s not that far at all (as an indication, the trip from the airport to Patong takes 30 mins). The beach is much cleaner at Karon.

Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks for your tips. We have decided to stay at Karon at the Andaman Seaview Hotel.

Hi Loooopy,

You will enjoy Karon. We stayed there last August with our 10 %26amp; 12yo. Had a wonderful time. It is a little quieter than Patong, but honestly - it is only a 15min ride by Tuk Tuk. My husband and Brother in law did the Bangla Rd thang one night. No hassle to get there at all. We travelled into Patong on a number of occassion to get the while fun seedy experience and do some shopping too. The nice part was coming back to Karon at the end of the day. You are also closer to Kata (10min along a gorgeous beach rd by tuk tuk), which is a little more upmarket again. Fopr a fun night out - even with 14 %26amp; 16 try dinopark mini golf - good clean fun. And there%26#39;s always a bar close by for a refreshing beer after!

Karon is defintely quieter, but still absolutely heaps to do at night. You will love it.
