Thai Visa situation

Hi guys, please can someone confirm the visa situation for entry to Bangkok for 1 week. I am a UK passport holder who will be traveling from london to delhi (india) then after a short stay will travel to bangkok for 7 days.

I understand I dont need to sort out a visa in advance as I will be issued one when I land at the airport.

You will be eligible for a free 30 day stay tourist visa if only staying for 1 week. Complete the waiver form on board your flight and present it on arrival at the airport.

You do not need to organise anything else.

Just a technical point here (forgive me). It is not a %26#39;visa%26#39; that is issued - no visas are issued on arrival, only %26#39;visa exempt%26#39; stamps. But, as the previous poster stated, that allows 30 days %26#39;visa-free%26#39; in Thailand for British (and citizens of 29 other countries) tourists/visitors.

Accomodation on beach but near town

We%26#39;re looking for a place on the beach but walking distance to town. Unfortunately, Baan Khao Lak seems to be already booked for the time of our visit. Can anyone recommend a different place?

Also, how easy is it to get out to some of the islands from Khao Lak for day trips?

In addition to my replies on the other post, the new Laguna Beach resort is next door to the Baan Khao Lak. The map at http://www.khaolaklovers.com/KhaoLakMap.html

shows the location of this and other resorts in relation to the main area of Khao Lak at Bang La On but I would also consider resorts on Bang Niang Beach just a couple of miles further up the highway with its own growing number of restaurants, shops and bars. The Ramada, La Flora and Mukdara all come gernerally well recommended and the new Sudala Beach Resort is very nice with excellent facilities.

I visited Khao Lak this January and February and highly recommend Bayfront Resort. It%26#39;s situated on the Sunset Beach, in 10 - 15 min. walking distance (or 3 min. by taxi) from restaurants and shops in Khao Lak. I took a look on couple of other hotels in this area and found Bayfront to be the best among 3* hotels, especially when we talk about relation between price and quality.

As regards the islands, I visited both Similans and Surins on day trips and my opinion is that it%26#39;s much better to take longer (at least 2 days) trip to both places. Of course, you can go to Similans or Surins within 1 day, but you won%26#39;t be able to appreciate all interesting places over there in such short time.

we are also want to have a meal at vertigo,we are staying at the banyan tree,from the 12th-16th april.

i have been e-mailing the hotel to ask if we need to book a table in advance ,or can we book when we arrive.but although having replies from them straight away they still haven%26#39;t answered our question.

we have read cost about the same as prices in uk.

i don%26#39;t like hights so god knows how i am going to be up there, i%26#39;ll be the one sitting with my eyes closed holding on to the railing

The prices are as high as the restaurant itself. The food and service is excellent but I%26#39;m glad I wasn%26#39;t paying when I went there - from memory about $1000 Australian for 3 people. In Bangkok you have no need to spend that amount of money to eat really well.

I think we just want to spoil ourselves for one night only, and it%26#39;s for the expeirence as well as the food as it looks a stunning set-up.

All booked up for the 15th April now. I%26#39;d read at lots of places that booking is recommended so I%26#39;d book if I was you we-love-phuket.

We ate at Vertigo a couple of Xmas%26#39;s ago and loved it. My husband hates heights and stayed away from the edge but the food, atmosphere, service and views were fantastic.

It is expensive, but for me, it was worth the money for the experience.

We had 2 starters, 2 mains and 4 G%26amp;T%26#39;s. No dessert and cost 拢135.00

They do have set menus that work out cheaper.

It was my birthday and they presented me with a lovely little birthday cake - just perfect for two - hence no dessert. So if it%26#39;s your birthday, mention it!

They also take your photo and present it in a little cardboard frame.

You can go for the expense of a taxi i would guess about 5 to 7,000 baht or try and book a bus (air con and comfortable) for about 500 to 1000 baht. Someone else may have another way. Last year i went from Aranyapratet to Mukdahan for 200 baht and that was overnight for 8 hour trip.

Pattaya to Khorat

I used the bus station on Sukhumvit Road (near where Central meets Sukhumvit Road.)

I got the ticket the day before and left in the morning. Ride was pretty good and cheap too! Water was available and some sort of snack (think it was banana chips) and there was a toilet on board the bus.

There was a stop halfway to Khorat where a cheap meal was served for free. Remember to keep your valuables with you at your seat and not in the storage area under the bus. This is not specific to Thailand always keep your valuables - especially money, passport and electronics at your seat within sight.

If you have some time to kill hop on the local bus to Phimai (from Khorat) and check out that little town. Ride is about an hour and cheap.

You can stay in the Phimai Inn (on the main highway, across from the newer bus station.) This is not the old Phimai Hotel which is in town close to the ';old'; bus station! Not that confusing when you get there. See the Phimai Wat (good photos at nighttime if the lights are on.) Also visit the museum and the ';biggest Banyan Tree'; in Thailand! I don%26#39;t know if it is the biggest but it was kind of neat and cheap too! (Worked on two archeology digs out of Phimai and stayed at the Phimai Inn each night.)

Has anybody out there stayed at the tongson villas Nr. Bophut. Thinking of staying for my honeymoon next August

Just wondering if there are restaurants within walking distance, as i dont want my new wife having to cook every night, save that for when we get back!

lots of good honeymoon places on samui

i am the owner of tongson villas and just heard about tripadvisor

we have many great reviews in our visitors book and now have our own website but will be a little while before google catches us .

there are only a few restaurants within walking distance from the villa [3 within 10 minutes walk]

most people rent a car or bike and then within 10 minutes drive your choice of dining is 100 plus restaurants .

Am planning to go to Chian Mai for 5 days in April with my family. Do you have any recommendation? Should we stay downtown (Chedi or D2) or in the Four seasons or Mandarin Oriental?

Stayed @ D2 it was fun, especially for families and the location was terrific. Also, go to Maesa Elephant camp. My sister and I went there for two days, spent one night, and learned to train elephants. Rode them and everything. If the children are old enough, they will love it. If not, just stop by they have shows, etc.

It%26#39;s easy to get a taxi from town to Palm Hills because there are a bunch of Taxi%26#39;s in town

But getting one to take you into town is another matter

You%26#39;d have to walk out to the main road (could be a long walk depending on where your rented villa is located) and stand there hoping to get a cab going into town.

Since Palm Hills is outside of town there aren%26#39;t that many going into town...unless they are heading back after dropping someone off.

the clubhouse has a van that picks up guests at hotels around the area and brings them to the clubhouse for golf.

I%26#39;m sure they would take you into town for a fee. But that would only work in the daytime when people are golfing.
