Tour Guide Jan was the Highlight

Through this forum we hired Jan as a tour guide for two days in Bangkok. Those two days were the highlight of our trip. We had so much fun with Jan who has a great and bubbly personality along with unbelievable knowledge of the city.

Jan prefers to do a walking tour using public transport as needed, and it is a great way to see the city. She kept referring to herself as ';General Jan'; but she really was not that bad!!

She took us to some fantastic places to eat. Places we would not have stopped in had she not suggested.

Very interested to hear of a different guide (as TA only seems to mention 1 person) with all the problems of getting hold of Tong and trying to get confirmed dates her sadly being ill etc

Can I ask a few things?:

How did you hear of Jan? Is she Thai and I assume that her English is good?

Tour Guide Jan was the Highlight

To say we absolutely adored Jan is an understatement. She was fantastic!!! Now, for the odd part. I really though I had found her on Trip Advisor and/or through Cathy %26amp; Gary%26#39;s site, but I am not really sure that is true since I did a quick search when I got home (because she told me she did no know who Cathy %26amp; Gary were) and most of the Jan%26#39;s I got back related to postings about January!!! I did not have time to look through all the postings about January, so I can%26#39;t be sure I found her name on T/A, but if I did it would have been last July.

I mainly used TA, but I do recall at the beginning of my quest for knowledge I was on another site, but do not recall which one.

Jan is Thai, and I do not think she has a web site. Her English is excellent. She is pretty quick to reply to e-mails, so you can ask if she has a web site. Her husband, Mike, also leads tours through the city, although we did not meet him.

Read with interest your comments on Jan. We used Jan in December 07 and were with her for 4 days. She was absolutely brilliant and left Bangkok feeling like we were leaving a family friend behind! She gave us the best time of our lives and made Bangkok really special for us. We had given her a list of things we wanted to see and she covered all of these plus much much more! You need to contact her by email but she will get back to you very quickly. She arrived on time on the morning arranged in our hotel lobby and we did not stop for 4 days. She has so much energy. She arranged some special touches and arranged seats for us at the Puppet Theatre, River Cruise and Light and Sound Show (which was amazing). Her husband Mike is lovely and acted as our taxi in the evenings when required. We can%26#39;t wait to get back to Bangkok and Jan. Hope this helps.

Ive just organized a shopping tour with Jan. With these glowing reports am much anticipating this tour.

You will have a wonderful time with Jan - we did not go to do the shops but saw all the major sites on our list. Jan is so knowledgeable about everything Bangkok. Please do remember Adrian and Shirley to her and tell her we will be back soon. Enjoy your trip!

please How much does the lovely Jan cost for a day or afternoon?

Jan charged 1,500 baht per day which is about 拢15. This is from about 8.00am until 5.00pm. She also expects you to pay her transport costs plus any food that you have during the day. We did book her for one half day but agreed right from the outset that we wanted to pay her for a full day as she has to travel in to the City and obviously she cannot really fill the other half of the day so it seemed only fair. We had not really planned to spend every evening with her but in the end we were all enjoying each other%26#39;s company so much we were with her until at least 11.00pm and one night even later. We added up all the extra hours and paid her an extra amount over and above the 1,500 agreed and by the end of the 4 days we were so happy we gave her a big tip to show our appreciation as it seemed such a small amount she was charging for the services she gave us. You also have to pay for her admittance to certain sites but in the main official guides get into these free.
