Kauai or Phi Phi

Any advice to me from anyone who has been to both places: Kauai, Hawaii or Phi Phi?

I want an out of way relaxing vacation for a week and have narrowed it down to Kauai or Phi Phi for a little snorkeling and relaxation with myself and the wife in our 30%26#39;s(no kids).

Never been to Kauai personally but have been to Honolulu, and just got back from Phi Phi a week ago.

I would say Phi Phi Le (Maya Bay) is near Hawaii in terms of beauty but Phi Phi Don (where all the hotels are) is more of a backpacker/young adult joint. Lots of partying, fireshows, drinking, general hippie vibe. For scenic relaxation you%26#39;d have to take day trips to some of the more remote areas. It all depends on what you%26#39;re up for.

On another note, Railey beach on Krabi is a good alternative for rockclimbing and other relaxing activities without the hectic party hardy of Phi Phi. So you could do a few nights in Railey and then go to Phi Phi for a night or two just to experience it.

Kauai or Phi Phi

Having not been to Phi Phi yet (we leave on Sunday for Thailand!!!), we were not as impressed with Kauai as others have been. The main beaches weren%26#39;t as nice as I would have like them to be, and although snorkeling was great, you don%26#39;t really get the ';swimming pool'; look to the water that I crave in a tropical vacation. Also, much of the island is desert like, which gives you some diversity, but lacks the ';lush'; feel. Others will disagree, but just my two cents.

I have been to Kauai as well as other Hawaiian islands and I think it%26#39;s beautiful, but I agree with the other comment about the beaches. It%26#39;s a small island with many tourists, and one highway around the island, so you can spend lots of time trying to get around and many of the popular beaches are packed. Nightlife is pretty non-existant on Kauai. There is lots of hiking and outdoor activities though, and there is a wide array of scenery. From the lush tropical to the desert and the mountains of Waimea Canyon, it really is a sight to see.

Phi Phi to me seems more exotic with bright blue water (can be found on Kauai but not everywhere) and I would choose Thailand between the two. However a big consideration is travel time, flight to Kauai is much shorter and if you%26#39;re looking for a relaxing vacation that%26#39;s important.

I switched gears and decided on Barbados which is not as diffcult to get to via plane as Phi Phi, but better and more beaches in Barbados than Kauai (I%26#39;ve heard and read) all around the island with lots to do in the day and evening.
