just got back from nai pan noi and haad yao

Hi all-

Returned to NYC on monday from 3 glorious wees in Thailand; first time there for me and my girlfriend. Here%26#39;s a quick synopsis of my opinions and experiences. Keep in mind we are both backpackers in our early 40%26#39;s with no kids, we don%26#39;t go for high end, but like things to be reasonably clean and comfortable.

Star Huts for 3 days - Ok, someone needs to say that Nai pan noi is a complete pain to get to. I know, that%26#39;s what makes it so appealing and ';remote';. But damn, that is one bumpy washed out road... Anyway..we thought the huts here were small, comfortable but small. We got an one with air conditioning but it wasn%26#39;t really necessary, although it made sleeping more comfortable. And i think the huts with air are closer to the beach. The waves on this beach are higher than the other side and the star huts beach seemed to be wider as well. Don%26#39;t know how to explain it but the vibe seemed nicer on the star huts side. No ear spliting construction, but this beach is going to change n a few years and be a more modern and expensive place, you can see it coming. Good food here as well.

We left there after 3 days cause we heard good things about haad yao. So we took a taxi there and looked for a bungalow. Easier said than done. Lot%26#39;s of construction going on here and even though the beach is nice, a lot of the land is ugly with constuction going on, lots of eyesores as they get it together. There reallyarent that many housing options and after a nasty encounter at sandy bay we ended up at High Life, up on the hill in a comfortable air conditioned bungalow for 1200 bht. We heard later from a friendy traveller that High Life used to be a very inexpensive and laid back place, but like most things on this island it has gone a bit more upscale and the prices and vibe have changed. The bungalow was ok but little things we missing. A towel rack for example. Poor drainage on the showers was wierd, with water all over the floor. And a TV and air, but no fan or fridge. I told my girlfriend it was outfitted by college frat boys, hence the priority on tv and air... Bt having the pool was nice on the off days and the beach at this end was very comfortable.

I%26#39;ll add more later, just though I%26#39;d post some quick thopughts this morning.

Hi Radioking,

nice to meet you here again! You remember me? We met on the taxi ride from Thong Nai Pan Noi to Haad Yao and staid at High Life together. We had really fun together and really good talks, we enjoyed it very much to get known to you both.

We have been very sorry that we could not say goodbye to you. But we have been ready to leave to Chao Phao beach around 9am and did not want to wait for the 10am taxi. So we left earlier and did not see you around to say goodbye.

We had three wonderful days at Blue Ocean Palace. the beach there is amazing and really calm. We loved it so much. After that three last nights on Koh Samui so that we arrived home saturday.

Please say hi to L.

bye, Yvonne
