Similana

The latest news is that The Similana has been secured by the Four Seasons Group.

Hopefully the redevelopment which will no doubt occur, will retain the unique style of this property and not raise the prices too far!

Similana

Wow! The Sarojin, the Four Seasons Similana and Le Meridien. Pakweeb will really be the Gold Coast of Khao Lak.

Similana

Pre-tsunami there were two ';Similana'; Resorts. The one that was never rebuilt was/is located on Nang Thong/Sunset Beach between the Khao Lak Laguna and Khao Lak Resort. You can still see the ruined buildings from the beach if you walk along that area.

My understanding - though I could be VERY wrong - is that the property that Four Seasons obtained was that Similana.

Anyone know for sure?

Russetsprint - was it specifically the resort on Pakarang that was mentioned or just ';Similana';?

Russetsprint is correct. It is the Similana on Pak Weeb Beach. I was told just this morning that it is going to be a total ground up redevelopment resulting in a 500 guest/250 bed High Class resort a la Four Season style(same occupancy as Le Meridien).Apparently starting with the new 6* Kapinski, just North of the new Andamania, upto the Asparas and others at the Cape and along Pak Weeb upto the Haadson on Bangsak Beach is set to become the exclusive, therefore, expensive resort area of Khao Lak

Sadly, that means I can only afford to visit the PakWeeb Beach part of the Cape rather than staying there . . . :-(

But - that will be a wonderful area when it is all done. It will benefit everyone in the area.

Hello

Just when we thought we had found paradise . All this building work has got to spoil the peace and tranquility of this area.

Fortunately it is a big area - not just one village or town. Construction in one area does not necessarily affect other areas.

I agree with Ted. It%26#39;s a huge area so a few developments will mean more choice and some good local restaurants and bars that usually crop up around them, although this seems not to have yet happened around the Orchid and Andamania. Personally, I have my eye on another location in the Bangsak area which my money is on for the next redevelopment. A lovely location with great potential, I%26#39;m just trying to find out who currently owns it.

Apparently several ';Phuket interests'; had expressed interest in the Bang Sak area but had been rebuffed for fear that it might become another Patong. More upscale developers are being courted, I understand. That from a local hotel booking operator.

On further investigation, I am advised that a new hotel is indeed planned for the Bangsak area. This will be run by the same owners as the existing Khao Lak Resort hotel. The redevelopment of an existing hotel on Bangsak is also in the planning stages. It does indeed seem that the area north of Pakarang Cape is to be %26#39;the%26#39; area to stay in Khao Lak.
