Where in Koh Samui and Koh Tao for couple in 50s

We%26#39;re a young minded couple in our early 50s and going to Koh Samui and Koh Tao in June and are wondering which resorts to stay in. We like some nightlife and particularly enjoy a live band but don%26#39;t really want to be surrounded by partying travellers. We%26#39;re going to Koh Tao for snorkelling so the clarity of the sea is more important than the nightlife, though we don%26#39;t want to be in the middle of nowhere! Koh Samui we%26#39;ve narrowed down to Chaweng, Lamai or Bophut - any suggestions as to which would suit us best? And are the taxi charges as bad as I%26#39;ve been reading? For example, if we choose to stay in Bophut, how much should we expect to pay for a taxi to Chaweng?

Taxis are only expensive within the context of the local economy. In European terms they are cheap. The journey from Bophut to Chaweng will probably cost Bht.300 which is less than £5.00.That same Bht.300 will buy you three large beers in a local restaurant,or three cd%26#39;s or two tee-shirts or three Thai dishes with rice again in a local restaurant. So you see why we carp about the taxis.

Hi we are slightly younger, but had similar desires for our stay in Samui, we chose Bophut, but were a little disappointed and wished we%26#39;d stayed at either north or south Chaweng. Our friends recently stayed at Samui Paradise (at south Chaweng) and love it. Hotel review on here in the hotel %26amp; accommodation page by SandyL, we were keen on this hotel, but the room we were keen on wasn%26#39;t available. We stayed at Peace resort in Bophut which we loved, but we would have preferred somewhere with more to offer than Bophut or the 15-20 min walk to the Fishermans village for a night out. We hired a jeep, had dinner at Big Buddha restaurant and got lost but ended up in Chaweng and did some shopping, so even in the dark Samui is easy enough to get around. Lee
