Can anyone shed any light on Bo Phut beach? I have heard mixed reviews on the beach itself. Can you swim in the ocean there? Is it Rocky? Is there a beach close by which is better recommended? Thanks in advance for your help.

Bo Phut beach is a lot quieter than chaweng beach. The areas you can swim in are roped off- more to stop boats coming into the swim zone. The beach itself is ok but not powdery white sand like at chaweng. Its more course but not uncomfortable.
Have a look at sawadee.com it gives a really good breakdown of what the beaches are like. Unfortunatly the only way to get onto the other beaches such as Lamai, Chaweng etc is to walk through a hotels property.

Thank you. This helps. I was afraid the beach was ROCKY based on reviews. Quiet is good for this leg of our trip. :)
You will find the beach just fine .The sand is more golden coarse grain but perfectly fine for swimming(Hot on bare feet).The sea floor can be a bit soft clay in places but we swam before breakfast and at dusk every day we were there .Make sure you get a Pineapple on a stick %26amp; fresh coconut from the beach vendors they are great.Don%26#39;t miss out on Beach massage $10 for an hour.

bophut beach at the top end ( world resort ) it gets deep quickly within a couple of metres you are waist deep. beach a bit course mixed shell small stone and hard sand but its still a very pretty beach
Thanks again everyone. I am going to try and book ';Zazen'; today at Bo Phut. Stay posted as I will certianly be online after to share our experiences! (We%26#39;re 8 days in Ohuket and 5 on Ko Samui)

If you can%26#39;t get in at Zazzen don%26#39;t worry as I think the place is overrated.It has a very small pool and is at the far end of the beach away from the Fishing Village.A long walk but you can catch taxi.Try Bandara,Anantara or Bo Phut Resorts.
