Phuket of Phi Phi

Hello all:

I%26#39;ll be visiting Beijing, Bangkok, Phuket and Hong Kong late April early May. Wanted to know if it%26#39;s better to book a hotel in Phuket or in Phi Phi Don or Lei, does anybody have any words of advise?

Phuket of Phi Phi

We stayed in Patong Beach, Phuket and did a day trip on a fast speed boat to Phi Phi and the other significant islands (James Bond, Phi Phi Lei etc) and had a fantastic time. this was before the Tsunami so Phi Phi has probably changed a lot ! But, we thought, nice place to visit but enjoyed staying in the more bustling Patong for 2 weeks.

Phuket of Phi Phi

I recomment Phi Phi by far. Phuket is full of go go bars and very Westernised. Phi Phi is normal thai restaurants whereas Phuket is full of Mcdonalds, KFC, pizza huts etc. Phi Phi is a much smaller island but definetly better by far. I have travelled all over Thailand and Phi Phi is my favourite Island. We stayed in PP Andamen legacy last time they have a swimming pool and are central we paid 1500bht in high season (jan).

I agree with tineyuk that phi phi is a great place to be. We also were there before the tsunami but i%26#39;ve heard they have done a great job with reconstruction of the place.

It%26#39;s an idyllic place, and other travellers we met the time we were there -that were also in phuket- said the same ...that is more authentic and not so westernised.

I suppose it depends on what you want...visit %26#39;thailand%26#39; and its beauties or another place to have a night life like everywhere else in the world.

I went in January this year and i was there the week before the Tsunami. The 7/11 at the pier has gone and its now a travel shop. they have built much more restaurants all along the beach front all the way to the Hippie Bar. they have also built more hotels/apartments. It still look the same tho only more pubs/bars etc. I just feelPhuket is far too sleazy whereas Phi Phi is more relaxed and you still have the option of having a great night with the many bars. Carlitos bar has had a total revamp.
