Centre Point or Indra Regent?

Hi -- Im torn between Indra Regent and Centre Point (Pratunam). I%26#39;ve actually reserved Indra thru travelhotel.com but I found the cancellation policy in their confirmation email too limiting -- if I cancel 2 weeks before arrival date, I will be charged the whole booking amount! I discovered Centre Point but Im not sure if this is quite near. I%26#39;d like to be very near Pratunam Mall as I will be doing a lot of wholesale shopping within this area. Help pls. How far (metres? minutes?) is Centre Point? Is it better? Ok location and accommodation? TIA

Centre Point or Indra Regent?

If you want to be right where the markets and stalls are then Indra is the place to be. It depends too on what style of accommodation you seek because it is a three star hotel. The rooms are a bit dated despite the refurbishment a couple of years ago and the hallways and reception/foyer areas are a bit tired.

+ves for Indra

- Location, Location, Location - Pratunam market is in front of you as soon as you step out of Indra.

- Baiyoke mall is just next door.

- Platinum and other malls including Pantip are within a block.

- Rooms are comfortable, however not an overly high standard.

- Breakfast buffet is average to good depending on your taste, however be aware that this is an open air breakfast so if the days are really hot you may find it uncomfortable.

- There is a mini mall in the hotel.

- Hotel rates if you book under a package are generally reasonable/cheaper - you can also try the hotel direct at www.indrahotel.com - it has a special rate of THB 3400 per night for two people and this is inclusive of all taxes - no more to pay. Cancellation policy is a more reasonable 72 hours

-ves for indra

- Not anywhere near the Skytrain (BTS) or underground so you need to take a taxi or walk to. World Trade Centre (a big disadvantage in the heat)

- Not many good restaurants in the area - better ones are in Siam Square and along Sukhumvit Road.

- Accommodation is dated in decor and style.

- Getting a taxi can be absolute mayhem in this area during peak hour (although it is almost the same anywhere during peak hour)

If you want to be right in the heart of the Pratunam market district - Indra is proably the choice, however depending on how much you want to spend on accommodation also look at the Baiyoke Towers (there are two in the same area)

Have a great time in Bangkok!
