How to spend the day...

The family (3) will be in Chiang Mai in early July for 5 nights.

We have a private driver booked for 1 day to tour around Chiang Mai, to do some shopping and sight seeing, and are looking for some ideas on where to go and what to see while we have this convenience at our disposal.

We have booked a day at the ENP, will do some walking around the old walled area of the city, the Sunday market, the night market, and such things.

Will probably ';do'; the zoo and/or the night safari one day.

Thanks for any suggestions you can make.

Chris

Some of the usual things that you may want to do in a car during a day, but not all of them, might include any of the following:

Doi Suthep, stop at Huay Kaew waterfall on the way, visit the King%26#39;s Pagoda after Doi Suthep.

Ban Thawai wood carving village, head out to Hang Dong and turn left into the village, full of hand craft places mostly wood carving.

Sankampaeng district, umbrellas, silks, cottons, other handicraft things.

The Queen%26#39;s Botanic Gardens.

Ancient structures and temples in Lamphoon.

Mostly in different directions but you could buddy some of them up on the same day, depends on how much driving you are wanting to do.

Have fun.

Hi there,

You will love the Elephant Nature Park!!! Absolutely brilliant. We stayed for one night. It was absolutely the highlight of our 5 weeks (just arrived home) in Thailand. Wonderfully happy elephants and lovely people looking after them. I%26#39;m glad you%26#39;ve booked to go there.

While you have your driver you could go to the snake show and the monkey show..it%26#39;s a bit out of town but not too far. The drivers will know what you mean. Our driver suggested it. The snake show was with cobras and python. Check the times of the shows, though, but I know we saw the monkey show and then pretty much went across to the python show. There are 3 or 4 shows a day.

We also did the Golden Triangle tour whilst in chiang mai. A very long day (13 hours) and it included going to the long necks village, but really you just roam along a street of stalls to buy some stuff from them. So, you could give that a miss and it could shorten the time. We thoroughly enjoyed the day, and it was a lot better than I anticipated it to be. Well worth it! You can even pay 500 baht and walk through the border into Myanmar to get your passport stamped if you want to do that - we did!

Regards..Pam
