Tours with Tong-Public Transportation vs Private Car

We will be in Bangkok in December and are wondering what the pros and cons are regarding public transport (fun, varied, maybe unreliable?) and a private car (comfy, no contact with locals, more expensive). Tong asked which we preferred, and I see positives to each. Your experiences?

Tours with Tong-Public Transportation vs Private Car

I just came back two weeks ago and used Jerry (who works with Tong) as our guide. He was excellent by the way.

We used his car when travelling outside Bangkok (to the floating market and to Ayutthaya) but local transportation (river ferries and tuk tuks) when in Bangkok. This all worked out well. I don%26#39;t think you should use a private car in Bangkok, it takes forever to get anywhere in that traffic. Besides, a tuk tuk can be more fun, and the ferries run frequently. As long as you are with a guide, there is no problem with either. Don%26#39;t try the tuk tuks on your own!...they will rip off tourists whenever they can and even try to take you to tailors, jewellers, etc. where they get paid for doing so. But they are fun, if you can use a guide to eliminate the risks.

Hope this helps....

If you are sensitive or precious about the heat then take the air-con car... however public transport is fun... especially the tuktuks... its not unreliable at all..... you will have alot of fun!

it really depends on what you want from your holiday and experience of Bangkok.

If you are in Bangkok in December then the weather should not be to bad or too hot so using public transport with Tong would add to your experience.

If you do not like heat or crowds then car.

Enjoy your trip.

While you have probably completed your tour now will add this for future readers.

We used Tong for two days.

Day 1 We used their transport for outside Bangkok (Floating Markets, Tiger Temple)

Day 2 Around Bangkok we used public transport.

They we great an I would strongly recommend. We organised at the last minute and while we had a new guide, he was great!
