Day trip to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok?

Hi there,

We are planning a trip to Bangkok for 3 days - is it possible to visit Kanchanaburi and the River Kwai on a day trip, or would it be better to treat them totally separately and stay at 2 separate hotels? If the latter, does anyone have any advice where would be the best place to stay at Kanchanaburi?

Thanks.

You can certainly visit on a day trip but of course your time will be limited. As you only have 3 days in BKK then that is probably the best option as Bangkok has a lot to see too.

I would rather spend 3 days relaxing and sightseeing in Kanchaburi, than spending 3 days in Bangkok.

Tong and her team do this tour as a daily basis.

We stayed at Resotel..it%26#39;s fabulous..

Hi there,

Personally i%26#39;d also go to kanchanaburi for a couple of days rather than Bangkok. it%26#39;s only 2 hour bus ride to kanchanaburi and the Tiger Temple is well worth seeing, as is the bridge, the war cemetery, Hellfire Pass. We caught a bus (leave about every 1/2 hour and you don%26#39;t have to book) to Kanchanaburi and stayed at Ploy Guesthouse (600 baht incl. breakfast in lovely clean room and top location overlooking river for breakfast). Hired an air con taxi with driver for the day and headed straight up to Hellfire Pass and then Death Railway, then on to Tiger Temple and finally ended up back at town where the Bridge is located. You can wander across the bridge any time, so that%26#39;s not a problem. Cost was 1500 baht for the taxi for the day 8.30 to 5pm - can%26#39;t complain about that. Also if you are into markets, they do have one (every town seems to have one) and prices are better than Bangkok but best of all without the pollution involved in getting around Bangkok! Bus fare is 120 baht from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi and leaves from Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok. Hasssle-free. But, you could also hire a taxi for the day and work your own itinerary for the day, as perhaps a couple of hours at Hellfire Pass isn%26#39;t your thing, but the Tiger Temple is. We went and it%26#39;s definitely worth the visit to the Tiger Temple.

Enjoy.

I%26#39;m sure you can cram most of the attractions into a day but we stayed in Kanchanaburi for 3 nights earlier this year at the Felix and really enjoyed it. As well as the usual attractions, if you get the chance, stop at the Nakhon Pathom - it%26#39;s a town that you pass through on the way to Kanchanaburi. Wat Phra Pathom (the world%26#39;s tallest chedi) and Sanam Chan Palace are well worth a visit.
