Phuket in May

We are going to Thailand in May. We wanted to spend some time in Phuket, however it is supposed to be one of their rainiest months. Has anyone ever gone in May? Would you recommend risking it or should we plan to spend those days in another area? We are going to Bangkok %26amp; Ko Samui, so we only have about 4 days for another location. Thanks!

Phuket in May

We are usually in Phuket for May. My hubby%26#39;s birthday is on May 29 and we have taken out a boat for the day and the weather was perfect. No rain, calm seas, lovely!

You have to be lucky to get a lot of good days in a row in May though, as it is one of the wettest months, like you said.

Read through this link for some useful information about May, including average number of rainy days per month. http://www.alexmalcolm.net/weather.html

Bear in mind that weather patterns are changing - as they are throughout the world. Last year Thailand had a lot more rain than normal, so much that it affected fruit crops in the south. The pollen had been too wet to pollinate and fruit production was down.

Phuket in May

Hi , we were there in May 2006 and it did not really rain that much. When we return in May this year we are going to pack a mini umbrella just in case as we got caught in a few showers that were heavy but didn%26#39;t last that long but mainly when we were in Bangkok.

Hi Athena,

We are also travelling to Phuket in May and I was wondering if the beaches are generally safe for swimming? We are thinking of staying near either Surin or Bang Tao Beach.

Thanks,

Claire

Clare, you will have to look to others for information about swimming on Phuket%26#39;s beaches at that time of year, as we have only gone swimming offshore at that time (at the islands).

We don%26#39;t stay in touristy areas nor do touristy things, so cannot give you advice on those things. I%26#39;m sure someone else can give you some good input.
