There are many road and sideroad (called ';Soi'; in Thai) in Bangkok. Some of them are very dangerous, even for Thai people. So, you have to avoid going there. The names of them are as follows.

10 most dangerous ';Soi'; (or sideroad in Bangkok

Sorry to say that is is a rather ridiculous post. You%26#39;ve picked this very old story from a website. These small sois were named by police along time ago as places they would be paying special attention to.

They are not places any tourist is ever likely to go to.

I could name 10 streets in any city in the world that could be described as dangerous.

Bangkok for tourists is much safer than London, Paris, New York, Moscow or many other large cities.

dragonc

actually you are wrong if you include vehicle and pedestrian accidents.

bangkok per head of population has a higher rate of death and injury on the roads in BKK than london, paris and NY. don%26#39;t know about moscow though.

also bangkok has a higher rate of malaria and dengue than the other cities you mention.

safety in any city doesn%26#39;t just refer to crime, does it. it comprises a whole range of factors.

Hi;

Obviously there are many dangerous areas in any major city in the world . As I can see and know regarding Bangkok is pretty Safe for tourists when they travel within the tourist Zones . Those are located in the Landmarks such as Grand Palaces , all

famous temples, shopping malls , Sukhumvit road and its Soi . Other than theses , I would not want to make any attempt to walk in local neighbors

My soi is pretty dangerous ( a shooting two weeks ago) and is in the ';tourist belt - Thonglor soi 20.Then again its the first shooting in 10 years around here - my friends in Hackney report hearing gunfire all the time (in London).

This was just published today in Sydney and an equal article on page 8 of the new york times. I guess there is concern for tourists. Hopefully, the authorities will do something about it.

It%26#39;s strange how people say %26#39;the authorities must do something%26#39;.

The authorities round here are probably as dangerous as the yobs who get drunk in the night clubs down in Thonglor.

Let%26#39;s face it the police carry guns round here. And I seem to remember several bar incidents were caused by our Boys in Brown.

It%26#39;s the culture here to drink too much. And the Chinese idea of %26#39;losing face%26#39; is very strong.

Generally I would say Thailand is safer then both Sydney or New York for a night out though.

Usually foreigners only get involved in this type of problem if they resort to their own culture of being too %26#39;mouthy%26#39; in public. Thai people don%26#39;t do that, and don%26#39;t like people who do. Unless it is REALLY serious you should never lose your temper here; just smile and take a deep breath.

And by the way, ignore the scare mongering in the header of this post.

Yes, there are drugs. Yes, you hear of the odd motorbike gang problem. But generally this is nothing to do with tourists or tourist areas.

There are crimes in Bangkok and every where in the world. I%26#39;ve never had any problem when I lived in Bangkok and every time I visit Thailand.

I%26#39;ve lived in Melbourne for the last 10 years and I experienced 2 crimes. One is a rob at an ATM in front of a bank on a busy street during lunch time. The other is our car was broken in while we visited a beach during day time.

I%26#39;m not making out that Bangkok/Thailand is better but for sure it%26#39;s easier to find a police station or a police in Thailand than in Melbourne.
