General Tours Hilltribes of Thailands tour........

Does anyone have any first hand experience with this trip? Were signed up to go a few years ago then the SARS scare screwed it up so we had to cancel. We are now thinking about rebooking but, in the interim, one of our group has had 2 hip replacements (he is only 51!) and we don%26#39;t want to be overly energetic. Have travelled frequently to Bangkok so there are no worries on that account. Thanks!

General Tours Hilltribes of Thailands tour........

the hill tribes are not acceped by the thai goverment

and are ostrucicized

the children are taken from them also, visiting them might or might not be a good idea, it depends on where he money goes

imo it wont go to them or their plight

up to you !

The Hilltribes are accepted by the Government. Your in the wrong forum though, put this post in Chiang Mai or Rai forums. The Queen has a special project assisting several hilltribes near Chiang Mai with farming (getting away from subsistence and moving towards trade) its beginning to pay dividends for the Hmong tribe. I have seen it first hand and have stayed with Hmong, Mon and the Karan tribes in homestay. They are truly happy people. Send me a personal message if you want more info such as a well educated guide, cost etc.

Don%26#39;t listen to the above post, he only quotes the odd scraps that he reads and would not have much experience.

Coffs

The Queens projects are getting them away from Opium Poppies, and they aren%26#39;t accepeted by the Thai Government, because even though born in Thailand the children cannot get birth certificates or registration cards to make them eligible for school.

Lots more there than meets the eye and a very political subject indeed.

  • eye creams
  • lot of oil refined
