Hello fellow travellers, great to be back on Tripadvisor after our European extravaganza, looking forward now to a short holiday in Thailand from 18 Sept to 4 Oct during our Aussie school holidays.
I am trying to decide on where to stay in Bangkok for the first 4-6 nights - it%26#39;s been hard finding a room for the 4 of us (2 kids 12 and 10) and the options seem to be:
Davis Hotel
Marriot Resort %26amp; Spa
D%26#39;Ma Pavilion
Unico Grande Sathorn
Any recommendations or thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Also mulling over going to Chiang Mai from Bkk (train or flight?) for say 3-4 days and then to beach location (ideas??) for the last 4-5 days.
Thanks in advance,
Frodo
Help please for family of 4
We are going to Bangkok in july and we are also 4, kids 11 and 8 years.
We have booked Novotel on siam, where we all can be in one room.

I stayed at the Grand Diamond Pratunam - super large rooms, living room, 2 bathrooms and a fantastic view of the city. Very affordable too.
Can put you in touch with the local travel agent if you message me.
I know only 2 hotels on your list. Davis is in Sukhumvit area, good area in town but you can have traffic jams if you travel by taxi (seems to be the only mean) during rush hour. Marriott a relatively further far away comparing to the Davis, but it%26#39;s by Chao Phraya river, and I think you will find it quite graceful there.
Novotel is also good, because it%26#39;s right in the center of the town. Food and shopping will be easily found near Siam Square.
I%26#39;d recommend you to take a flight to Chiang Mai, train may take you up to 10hrs. Usually, people take the train in the evening, stay over night on the train (2nd class air-con with sleeping bed, or first class with private room). Travelling by train may save you 1 night (from the hotel) and a little lower cost comparing to air. The train schedule can be delayed without notice. On the other hand, there are lots of things in Chiang Mai waiting for you. I believe that you may wanna spend an extra night in Chiang Mai exploring things (for example night market), rather than being in the train.
Have a great time!

Hi Cathhhh, Fancy seeing you here - I know you from the Vietnam forum lol...
Anyway, we have a 2 day stopover in Bangkok on our way to Hanoi in June and we are also a family of 2 adults and 2 kids (12 %26amp; 10).
Can you please advise where you managed to get that fab hotel deal - it would suit us perfectly and at such a good price. Good spotting on your behalf!
Thanks in advance

Thanks everyone, wonderful tips.
Looks like the Grand Diamond - just under $200 AUD per night for the 2 bedroom suite (ah some space!)and quite happy with the location and facilities.
The Holiday Inn site said they couldn%26#39;t fit the 4 of us in but I did note Cathhhh%26#39;s post that Creative might have been able to get it.
Decided to look around Bangkok and then spend the other 10 days in Phuket and got fab $27 airfares Bkk to Phuket (provided Air Asia isn%26#39;t dodgy!) on bestflights.com.au - now to lose 10kg and get a spray tan.
Cheers
Frodo
Does Creative Tours (I assume Ceative was a misspell) have a website? I don%26#39;t see one?
thanks,
t
We%26#39;ve just booked 2 Adults %26amp; 2 Kids in same room. Royal Orchid Sheraton - lovely looking pool right by the river and hotel runs ferry service to nearest sky station, I%26#39;m told.
