My husband and I are in the process of planning our next vacation and Thailand has come up so many times that I think we have almost decided that%26#39;s where we%26#39;re headed... and then I think: RAINY SEASON!
Does it rain so much in June that we won%26#39;t even be able to enjoy ourselves? I%26#39;m thinking our trip will consist of a few days in Chiang Mai, a few days in Bangkok, a few days in Phuket.
This will already be totally out of our travel comfort zone (definitely not the Caribbean beach resorts we%26#39;re used to), and while I%26#39;m totally fine with the adventure of Thailand, I fear really bad weather would take us from excitement to misery...
I%26#39;m hoping you all come back and tell me it%26#39;s like the ';rainy season'; we experienced in Mexico, where each afternoon we had a random 20 minute shower, but I%26#39;m prepared for your honest answers!
Should we even go in June?
I was hoping to go to Bangkok and then Koh Samui for a 10 day honeymoon at the end of July.
But I am told its monsoon season. Some friends have said it will only rain for 1 hour a day. Personally, I dont fancy taking a chance at all.
Can someone please help on this one?
Should we even go in June?
I have visited at all times of the year. Can%26#39;t comment on other areas, or years other than the last two, but in the North East (Bangkok, Rayong, Pattaya etc) the rainy season doesn%26#39;t seem much of a problem. I went in May and it rained for about an hour every evening. I went in September and it rained solidly for one full day and then it didn%26#39;t rain during the daytime for 11 days.
In any event, it almost always clears up pretty quickly, and it%26#39;s always 30 degrees, so just wear clothes that will dry quickly (fabric, not denim, cut offs and sandals with no socks.) and watch the rain come and go from the comfort of a nice bar or restaurant.
There are no guarantees of course, but really, it should be no problem at all. In fact I like the rainy season, it lends an air of drama and unpredictability, in a manageable, watching-it-from-a-bar sort of way ;-)
