The Good View Restaurant, Chiang Mai: cavernous, noisy and popular with locals, romantic band, abundant and tasty food. 13 Charoenrat rd (053) 241 866 $$

Both are located along a stretch of the Ping River%26#39;s east bank, just north of Nawarat Bridge.

Best Riverside Restaurant - Opinions Please

Thanks for asking balimoon, and thanks for all the ideas ravenret.

We leave home tonight and will be in Chiang Mai Sunday -28th-afternoon. Good thing we%26#39;re there a few days and can check a couple of these places out! I%26#39;m drooling already!

Craig,

Thanks for the extensive list, will be saving to my trip folder.

Have you eaten at any and which would you recomend?

balimoon;

I%26#39;ve eaten at Riverside. Had table right on the river, good food , good service, and band was enjoyable. I%26#39;ve been to that restaurant twice on two sepaerate trips. Unfortunately each trip was only 3 days, so didn%26#39;t try any of the others on this list. Wish I%26#39;d had the list before. I ate at restaurant in hotel I love. Yang Come Resort Hotel.

Anyway, I%26#39;ll be in Chiangmai again Nov 6 with my girlfriend for 3 days and intend to go to the Riverside again and hopefully try a couple of the others.

Craig

Sarah;

I also ate at a Kontoke Dinner show. If you haven%26#39;t done that it%26#39;s worth doing once. Also would recommend any restaurant on with traditional Lana Style food/cooking.

I had friend%26#39;s nephew and his wife there in Chiangmai who owns an import/export business. They gave us a car/driver from his business ffor free with instructions to show us the best of the area for three days. His wife is from Chiangmai and we ate at their house several times. She cooks exceptional traditional Lana style dishes which we loved. That%26#39;s why we didn%26#39;t get out to more restaurants. Hard to pass up really authentic home cooking which we found so delicious.

Craig

Hi Craig,

With home cooking, I don%26#39;t blame you for not going out to much. Sounds fantastic.

We are staying at Yaang Come Village, so will definately eat there.

We intend to go over to the river one night for a meal and to see a band. Love live music. But don%26#39;t have to eat and see the band in the same place.

As there are so many to choose from, think I will give the list to hubby and let him decide.

Thanks again for all the useful tips.

For live music on the river, don%26#39;t miss Took at the Brasserie (near the Riverside). Took is a seriously fine guitar player with heavy blues/rock and roll chops, he and his band throw down a fiery, energetic show every night around 11, way better than the lightweight stuff on offer at the Riverside and Good View. Food at the Brasserie is not that great though, so good idea to eat elsewhere, then head over to hear Took later on. For me, a trip to Chiang Mai would not be complete without a night of Took.

sarah;

Since your staying at Yang Come, a very good guide we had there once recommended a good noodle shop there. I happen to love Thai noodle soup dishes and we found this one very good. It%26#39;s an open air street shop on corner. Great for lunch or dinner or snack. Nothing fancy, and cheap. You go out the entrance to Yang Come to the road, turn right, cross the street and walk down about 100 yards or so. the noodle shop is on corner, covered but open on two sides. plastic tables, like I said not fancy. But I found the food good.

Craig

Thanks Craig and Cunning,

Brasserie sounds good - will look out for that. Got my Nancy Chandler Map, so will see if it%26#39;s on there!

Will also look out for the Noodle Shop.

Thanks again guys
